When .NET 3.0 was released, many saw the versioning as something strange, including yours truly. Being the same version of the base framework library as 2.0, and only having several extensions, in particular Windows Presentation Foundation, Windows Workflow, Windows Communication Foundation and Cardspace, it seemed a bit strange that the version was nominated 3.0, as opposed to some minor change, such as 2.5. However, it’s not until you really realize the impact of these technologies on future development, that you can appreciate the naming decision. One of these technologies is Windows Communication Foundation and in this four part series we are going to delve into it and see what it is, how it can be used, and most importantly, will we ever need it or want to use it.
